My Lovely Dogs

My dog, my bichon frise, my love

My first pair of bichon frise came from Australia some twenty years ago and I have kept these bubbly friends since, though the original beloved pair had passed away and I am having the progenies.

I come home each day from work, tired and drained, only to be greeted by my four joyous friends at the gate. Their friendly barks and their circling around me instantly de-stress me. Then I would pat their bodies and they usher me to the house. Amazing feeling.

Their black round eyes give me the thrills as they look at me all the time as though asking what I wish to do next and whether they can help. Huh, I guess they want to take a walk or just play. Wherever I sit they sit around to face me. The eyes shift as I move. And if I were to get up and walk away they will follow. bichon frise has beautiful eyes and I love to look at them.

One problem is the tears that stained the face. I blame it to the tiny hairs that could have dropped in when I trim the crown. They look best when the hairs are like one big ball of hairs and I have to keep cutting to achieve the shape. These small hairs can sometimes get into the eyes. Over the years I have been able to acquire some skills in grooming and trimming. I just have to do it carefully without these tiny hair cuttings get into the eyes.

But that may not be the only cause. It can be the diet I guess. Is dog food, pellets, good enough as they claimed. I therefore occasionally prepare cooked meals with real meat, beef, mutton or chicken blend with some peas and carrots. they like it and that is the treat.

I love them.

any one likes to share your experience with this lovely white powder puff bichon frise? post your comments in this blog.

Lovely blog... ;p brings back memories of sweet cherie ...sob...sob... the offspring of your 1st pair of bichons ;).

what a bundle of joy she was... though demure & sweet in disposition, she reckons she's the protector of the family. She would bark her head off at visitors but the moment they get close to her, she'll scoot off, hiding behind us. She once attacked a dog 3 times her size! God knows what she was thinking! She lost a tooth sinking her teeth into the dog, but that never stopped her from her mission - to defend her territory. Don't get me wrong, she was never the vicious sort, vindictive maybe but never agreesive, except for that incident, she has never bitten anyone or any other dog. She must have felt really threatened at that point.

Kudos for your effort & the love for your dogs & for this lovely breed that you introduced into our family...;)

Hope to see more interesting reads from your blog!

Cheers!

dear carmen

it is nice to hear about cherie. i remember her as a petite dog, small but within breed standard and very clean.

i was told she never step into wet grass. that is clever as she can maintain her whiteness without you having to put too much effort.

i like the story re biting the big dog in defence. isnt she fantastic
for her size.

cheers

Wonderful blog and informative too.

I agree with Carmen that bichon frise dogs are very protective of their masters. I once had a bichon by name of Petite Fleur. As her name suggests, "Small Flower", she was a small dog with a big brave heart. I remembered there was a very frightening incident where my children and I were being charged at suddenly by a large dog. Petite Fleur was with us then and saw that my children and I were screaming and running wildly from this large dog. Her instinct to protect us was so great that she risked her life by immediately distracting this large dog. She started barking and charging at the dog, who immediately turned its attention at her and started chasing her. She ran as fast as her legs could carry her, running round and round the playground where we were, with the large dog at her heels. We were so frightened at the sight of this large dog who now turned its attention on her. Our hysterical screams finally brought the owner out to control his dog.

By then Petite Fleur was panting furiously and looking at us lovingly. We were so proud of her and her action to defend us. As I recall this incident now, I could not help but shed some tears for her as a few years later, one day while my husband went jogging, he forgot to close the house gate. We suspected Petite must have gone out during that window period and lost her way. We searched for her every day and night for two weeks or more, cycling and driving around the estate hoping to spot her but we never found her. We even put up a newspaper advertisement to look for her. That very evening before the advertisement was out next day, we received an anonymous call asking to meet us somewhere at Boon Keng Road, requesting for a big sum to redeem our dog. After careful thought we deduced this must be a scam call as the advertisement was supposed to be out the next day yet this caller called even before the advert was out.

It was sad that we lost Petite, a brave and faithful female bichon who has given us many fond memories.

Thanks Ken for bringing Petite into our lives. We now have Mozzel, another bichon to love and care for and continue to bring lovely memories. Will tell more about Mozzel later.
